Eisteddfod ticket boom being fed by 'staycationers' WalesOnline
ORGANISERS have credited the “staycation” trend of holidaying at home for a 22% increase in ticket sales at one of Wales’ most prestigious cultural events.
The ongoing economic gloom has failed to dent interest in the Llangollen International Eisteddfod – and may have inadvertently enhanced it.
The annual festival of song and dance, which begins in earnest this morning, has benefited from the staycation – families taking holidays here instead of going abroad, say organisers.
Executive director Mervyn Cousins set up an extra evening concert for this year’s event, which has helped lift interest in the festival.
There’s also a full schedule of activities on Sunday for the North Wales festival – in previous years the day’s programme has not started until 6pm. This Sunday will host an arts in the community day with local performers taking on the eisteddfod’s international competitors from 50 nations.
