TEST DRIVE: Get a charge out of the Zero electric motorcyle BCLocalNews

Zero Motorcycles recently held the Canadian debut of the 2010 Zero S electric motorcycle at the Toronto International Spring Motorcycle Show in Mississauga, Ontario.

For 2010, Zero now boasts a four model selection - the Zero X trail bike, a Zero MX motocross model, and the latest Zero S supermoto street bike, which has been joined by a Zero DS dual sport model.

On a full charge, the Zero S offers a top speed of 105 km/h (67 mph) and an 80-100 km range, well within most commuting averages. Operating costs are estimated at less than a penny per kilometre and the battery recharges within four hours through an ordinary 110V household outlet.

So, on a theoretical daily trip to work and back, the battery could be topped up for the trip home by lunchtime.

Compared to previous bikes, this new Zero S flagship, a street-legal supermoto, has more power, increased acceleration, and enhanced power pack technology. The battery offers roughly two times the capacity of earlier versions and it is based on Canadian content, its lithium-ion cells produced by E-One Moli Energy in Maple Ridge, B.C.
